Patch Notes - Open Beta 3.1.8

Greetings commanders! 3.1.7 was a pretty big update that saw the completion of some larger features, such as Capua, player level improvements, new battle UI, etc. As such, many of the people who worked on those features have just started their next feature/investigation, so 3.1.8 is a slightly smaller patch than usual, but we do still have some exciting content to share. The new post-battle scene is something we've been looking forward to sharing with you, and will hopefully go some way towards instilling more team spirit! New Post-Battle Scene


After a battle, you will now be greeted with a new post-battle 3D screen! While this now lets the winning team show off their skins, it also has a deeper purpose. Based on your feedback about our MVP screen, we could see that it encouraged players to play for themselves, rather than for the team, as one person was shown from each team on the old screen. Now, with the whole winning team displayed, the MVP screen should encourage everyone to play for the victory, rather than for points.

  • The existing 'Team MVP' screen has been removed from the end of the battle
  • When you remain in the battle until the end, you will be greeted with this new 3D scene as you exit
  • If you exit the battle early and receive the end-of-battle notification, clicking on it will take you to this screen
  • On this screen, the Commanders of the winning team are lined up
  • At the head of the lineup is the MVP of the winning team, the player who earned the most points
  • On either side of the MVP are two Commanders who were specially chosen for a specifically impressive feat during the battle
    — These feats are actions such as "earned most aggression points" or "earned the executed decoration 3 times" or "got first blood"
    — These are randomised so that every player, no matter what units or commander they are playing, has a chance of appearing in these highlighted slots
  • The rest of the Commanders from the winning team are laid out behind these three
  • The post-battle rewards screen can be accessed from the 'details' button at the bottom right of the screen
  • You can return to the front end by clicking the 'Exit' button at the bottom of the screen

UI Improvements


The Tech Tree now includes all Premium Units you own. Previously, only Tech Tree Premium units were visible, but Shop Units are now included too. Alongside this, we've made another quality of life improvement. Now, if you mouse over any unlocked unit and press '1', '2' or '3', then it will be added to that slot on your squad.

There are also some other UI changes, like a new dropdown box!

New Tech-Tree units


Some shop units are going to become tech tree units, which means they'll become permanent additions from now on.

Barbarians:

  • T5 Celtic Slingers
  • T4 Spear Brothers

Greeks:

  • T5 Thracian Royal Cavalry
  • T4 Delian Peltasts

Romans:

  • T5 Sarmatian Lancers
  • T4 Germanic Scouts

Teutoburg Forest Balance Changes


After reviewing the metrics and data, along with your feedback, we've made some changes to Teutoburg Forest. These changes should make it easier to perform ambushes on the map (bringing it more in line with its theme), and also makes sure each side of the map is balanced.

  • Removed two watchtowers from the central area of the map
  • Added a path on the western side of the map from the central road to overlook the cliff where the watchtower used to be
  • Expanded the forest area on the northern edge of the map
  • Other minor tweaks around the map

Ability System Improvement


We've added support for executing different channels of the same ability at the same time. So when you are affected by the debuff caused by "Tales of the Belgae" from an enemy and at the same time are affected by the buff of an allied "Tales of the Belgae", the system knows and the UI is updated to inform the player.

The only exception to the system is that the same phase from a different source won’t stack. Two buffs of 50% speed won’t cause a 100% speed buff, for example, if these two come from the same database phase (the UI will only show one as well).

Optimised Loading Times


We've spent some time optimising how the client is handled during loading, primarily the front end scene and battles. Low spec users or, more specifically, users with traditional hard drives (non-solidstate) should notice more of a difference than others. Our internal tests have displayed up to a 30 second reduction in loading times on certain setups.

More Competitive Premium Units


Finally, for this patch, we've re-reviewed our Premium units and found that they are still under-performing in battle. We're making another step towards ensuring that Premium units are not worse than standard units and can be competitive. This change has increased the overall stats for the majority of Premium units by between 1% and 15%, depending on how their performance lined up with their counterparts.
