This is no mirage. What you see on the horizon is our new map, coming to you in update 3.1. Set in the arid Numidian desert, Oasis is a luxurious heaven a world away from the forests of Teutoburg or the sprawling city of Salernum.

We drew inspiration for this map from the Battle of Cirta, which took place about one year before the famous Battle of Zama during the Second Punic War. It was fought between the forces of the Roman Republic led by Publius Cornelius Scipio and Carthage's main ally, Numidian king Syphax. The battle started in the open field just outside of the town, where the unexperienced forces of Syphax failed to break the Roman infantry lines. The Numidian king tried to inspire his men by bravely charging forward, but he was knocked down from his mount and taken prisoner. Scipio’s victory secured his position in North Africa and allowed him to prepare for Hannibal's return from Italy.

The deserts of Numidia can prove treacherous to navigate safely. The central path is fairly open and offers a direct route to the enemy positions, but without the support of your allies on the flanks either side of the arch, you might find it hard to push forward.
  • Try to take control of the rocky high ground to strengthen your team’s central position and flank the enemy.
  • You may find it difficult to maintain visibility in the rocky area. Moreover, the map does not feature any Watchtowers, so careful positioning can be the key to survival.
  • To take a break from the hot desert sands, take a refreshing paddle through the Oasis waters. Here, long grass and trees provide ample places for your soldiers to hide. However, watch out for cavalry splashing through!
  • The bases are very defendable, with multiple chokepoints and hiding places behind buildings and rocks. If you are near the enemy base and it looks abandoned, check the surrounding area thoroughly, as the enemy might be just around the corner.
